How TripInsure Plus Works

TripInsure Plus is per-trip travel protection that offers two different plans, Standard and Premium, for you to choose from. The choice between the two plans allows you flexibility to evaluate the level of need for your specific trip.

Every trip is different. For some trips, our Standard Plan may fit your needs. For others, especially for those who want to be able to Cancel for any Reason, we offer in our Premium Plan. We want to provide our members with the option to choose which coverage suits them and their trip investment the best. Picking your plan puts you in control. If you need the optional Cancel for any Reason coverage, choose the Premium Plan.

Yes, you must be an EA+ member. Your annual EA+ membership provides emergency medical assistance and transportation in the event of a medical emergency when you are traveling away from home, 24/7/365. EA+ services include medical evacuation, medical/travel and security assistance, assistance for companions, repatriation of remains, transportation home and vehicle return. TripInsure Plus protects the investment you made in your trip. The protection that TripInsure Plus provides is different and separate from the services provided by your EA+ membership and is designed to complement those services.

TripInsure Plus protects your travel investments from unforeseen events, like a cancellation, delay, or interruption due to covered reasons. Without travel protection, the money invested in your trip could be completely lost, or you may be forced to pay for replacement flights, personal belongings, or hotel stays. With quality travel protection like TripInsure Plus, you can book with confidence even months in advance, taking advantage of early booking discounts for your trip.

You should select and purchase a protection plan as soon as you make your initial payment or deposit for your trip in order to provide the maximum protection for your travel plans. Some benefits, such as our Premium Plan’s Optional Cancel for Any Reason coverage, require you to fulfill time sensitive criteria, such as the following requirements:

  1. You purchase the Cancel for Any Reason Coverage within the Time Sensitive Period (21 days of the date Your initial Payments or Deposits for Your Trip is received); and

  2. You cancel Your Trip no later than 2 days prior to the Scheduled Departure Date of Your Trip.

Below are common questions regarding coverage. Please be sure to read through the plan documents for full Coverage Details.

Examples of covered reasons for trip cancellation are:

  • If you or your travel partner are Quarantined, subpoenaed, involved in a traffic accident, called to military or emergency service, are the victim of a felonious assault or terrorist attack that occurs within 30 days of your scheduled departure date in a city listed on the scheduled itinerary of your trip, or primary residence or scheduled destination are made uninhabitable or inaccessible by natural disaster, vandalism or burglary

  • Your job is involuntarily terminated or your vacation leave is rescinded by your employer

  • Your place of business is deemed unsuitable by vandalism or a natural disaster, and you are directly involved in the disaster recovery team

Let us know about the event within 72 hours of the event. We can help you file a claim. If you want some peace of mind knowing that you can cancel for any reason, please review the side-by-side benefits of each plan to help you decide.

Additional terms and conditions apply to all covered reasons discussed. Plan documents may contain additional covered reasons. Refer to the plan documents for complete details.

The Frequent Traveler Reward benefit on the Premium Plan can reimburse you for the fees incurred to re-deposit your frequent flier miles in the event of a covered trip cancellation.

That’s why we offer our “Optional Cancel for Any Reason” coverage in our Premium Plan! If you opt to have this coverage and need to cancel the trip for any reason no later than 2 days prior to your scheduled departure date, our Premium Plan can reimburse you up to the maximum benefit amount of 70% of the non-refundable, insured amount you paid for your trip. See the benefits table for specific plans and maximum plan amount information.

The Cancel for Any Reason Benefit does not cover penalties associated with any air or other travel arrangements not provided by the retail travel supplier or the failure of the retail travel supplier to provide the bargained-for travel arrangements due to cessation of operations for any reason.

We’re glad you asked! If you have to join your trip late, rejoin the trip, or leave the trip other than when planned due to a covered reason, you may be eligible for a reimbursement for the maximum benefit amount for the unused, prepaid, non-refundable portion of the trip that you missed.

So, if you, a family member, or your travel partner gets sick or injured during your trip, get it checked out by a doctor. If the doctor says that you can’t continue with your travels, our plans can reimburse you, up to the maximum benefit amount, for your unused, prepaid land or water travel arrangements plus the additional transportation cost paid to join/re-join your trip or transport you back to your originally scheduled return destination. Examples of covered reasons are as follows:

  • Member of your family is sick

  • The Financial Insolvency or Finance Default of an entity that directly provides Travel Arrangements that causes a complete cessation of travel services.

  • A strike takes place unannounced that causes a complete cessation of travel services

  • Inclement weather causes a complete cessation of travel services

Additional terms and conditions may apply to all covered reasons discussed. Plan documents may contain additional covered reasons. Refer to the plan documents for complete details.

If your trip is delayed for 5 or more hours en route to or from your trip or during your trip for any of the following reasons, our plans can reimburse up to the maximum benefit amount for the unused, prepaid non-refundable Payments or Deposits for the land or water Travel Arrangements, Reasonable Additional Expenses, plus the Additional Transportation Cost paid to join/re-join your trip or transport you back to your originally scheduled return destination.

  • Direct involvement in a traffic accident

  • Airport security breach, civil disorder or riot preventing you from departing on your trip

  • A common carrier delay

  • Mandatory evacuation due to a natural disaster

  • Someone steals your or your travel partner’s travel documents, visas, or passports

  • You or your travel partner are Quarantined

Both our Standard and Premium plans have trip interruption and trip delay benefits which can protect your travel investments depending on your specific circumstances.

Our Premier Plan has you covered! You must be delayed 5 consecutive hours or more while en route to Your Return Destination and have a covered Trip Delay claim; our Premier Plan can reimburse you to cover the additional kennel fees up to the maximum benefit amount.

If your baggage is lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed by a common carrier, hotel, or travel supplier during your trip, our plans can reimburse you through the lessor of one of the following ways:

  1. The actual cash value

  2. The cost to repair or replace the item

This will be less the amount payable by the responsible party for your loss, provided you have taken all reasonable measures to protect your items.

You may be eligible for a reimbursement for the cost of necessary items so long as the baggage is delayed by at least 12 hours from your time of arrival at a scheduled destination other than your return destination. This means our plans can help you cover your costs for clothing, toiletries, prescriptions, or eyewear.

Our plans can pay medical expenses incurred for a sickness or injury that first manifests itself on your trip. Our plans can cover medical services, such as x-rays, laboratory tests, prescriptions drugs, or services as ordered by the physician. Not only that, but our plans can also cover your hospital or ambulatory medical-surgical center needs, emergency dental treatment, and local transportation to and from the nearest hospital.

Eligibility for Coverage

We know that many retired folks invest their hard-earned money in travel experiences. TripInsure Plus plans are designed to protect travelers who are residents of the United States up to age 86.

The Standard plan is only available for trip length of 30 days or less. The Premium and Premium w/CFAR plans are only available for trip length of 90 days or less.

Pre-existing medical conditions are considered an illness, disease, or other condition during the 60-day period immediately prior to the date your coverage is effective. The exclusion for pre-existing medical conditions applies to Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption and Medical Expense. Please refer to the Sample Plan Document for the full definition of a pre-existing medical condition. If you still have questions, please call 1-844-385-1887.

If you select our Premium Plan, we can waive the pre-existing medical condition exclusion if your plan cost is received within the Time Sensitive Period (21 days of the date Your initial Payments or Deposits for Your Trip is received) and you are medically able and not disabled from travel at the time your plan cost is paid based on your physician’s assessment.

We will not pay any expenses if you have been advised in writing that you are not medically fit to travel at the time of purchase of the plan, as defined in your plan document. If you purchase your coverage and it is later determined that you were not medically fit to travel at the time you purchase coverage for your trip, your coverage is cancelled and any plan cost you paid will be returned.

Yes! If you are not satisfied for any reason, you may cancel your TripInsure Plus plan within 10 days of the effective date of your coverage by providing us with a cancellation notice. We will refund the plan cost you have paid provided there has been no incurred loss, you have not departed on your trip or filed a claim under your plan. At that point, all coverages under the plan are invalid.

Additional Benefits

Our plans can reimburse you for the additional cost incurred as a result of a change in the per person occupancy rate for prepaid, non-refundable travel arrangements under Single Supplement.

If you suffer a serious injury due to an accident on your trip, our plans can pay the percentage of the principal sum indicated in the table below:

Table of Loss

Loss of % of Principal Sum
Life 100%
Both Hands or Both Feet 100%
